WATERLOO REGION (June 26, 2023) – On Monday, District 8 announced their senior boys soccer all-stars, and topping the list as most valuable player was Camilo Vasconcelos from St. Benedict.
Vasconcelos, a grade 12 midfielder, scored eight goals in the District 8 season, helping the Saints capture their second senior boys soccer title in school history, and first since 1998. St. Benedict fell just shy of qualifying for OFSAA, but the squad was able to capture the triple-A CWOSSA silver medal.
Joining Vasconcelos as all-star are teammates Adrian Andrasic, Anthony Ostrun and Logan Todoroff. Grade 12 Andrasic and grade ten Todoroff were lockdown defenders for the Saints helping to only allow seven goals in eight games, including three clean sheets, while grade 12 Ostrun found the back of the net ten times.
St. Mary’s High School collected the District 8 silver medal, and are represented by all-stars Dylan Aziz and Marcus Barichello. Aziz, a grade 12 centre-midfielder, scored four goals, while Barichello helped the Eagles secure five wins with no goals allowed from the centre-back position.
Resurrection is represented by grade 12 centre-back Enrique Aguilar, while Monsignor Doyle’s Owen Cunha was named to the squad in the centre-midfield position.
Woodland Christian High School’s Sam Barnhoorn was named the lone goalie in all-star selections, recording one clean sheet within District 8, and helping the Cavaliers collect a single-A CWOSSA silver medal.
Grade 12 centre-midfielder Zack Ograda-Bratu represents St. David as an all-star selection, while grade 12 striker Wade Misheal represents Père-René-de-Galinée.
