WATERLOO REGION (June 26, 2023) – District 8 announced their all-star roster from the varsity girls’ soccer season on Monday with Resurrection’s Alicia McMurren named as the league’s most valuable player.
The grade 12 midfielder helped the Phoenix to their first soccer title since the 2015-16 season. McMurren scored four goals in District 8 play, as well as one at the triple-A CWOSSA Championship, where Resurrection claimed their second gold medal.
Resurrection teammates Abigail White and Skyler Morales were also named as all-stars helping the Phoenix to qualify for the OFSAA championships. White who played defence, and Morales as goalie were influential to ensure no goals were scored against Resurrection in their two District 8 playoffs matches, and two of their four matches at CWOSSA.
The grade 12 pair of Olivia Stavropoulos and Savanah Bauer were named as league all-stars from St. Mary’s High School, helping the Eagles to a finals appearance and a District 8 silver medal.
Natalie Mouradian from Père-René-de-Galinée was recognized as a league all-star scoring six goals in District 8. Mouradain also helped her squad to a single-A CWOSSA gold medal and a single-A OFSAA bronze medal.
Monsignor Doyle fell just shy of qualifying for the District 8 championship match, but had a successful season led by grade 11 midfielder Molly Owen and grade 11 striker Sophia Cabral. Cabral scored ten goals for the Mustangs, while Owen scored nine. Cabral has also recently made a verbal commitment to play for the University of South Florida in the NCAA’s Division 1.
Three grade 12 student-athletes round out the girls soccer all-star selections including Emma Thompson from St. David, Joelle Mitton from Woodland and Lily Vrugtman from St. Benedict.
