WATERLOO REGION (December 14, 2023) – It was announced on Thursday that Woodland’s standout guard Kaylee Chapman was named as the most valuable player in senior girls’ basketball.
Chapman, a grade 12 guard, helped Woodland to an undefeated season within District 8 including a 35 point win in the championship where she led in scoring with 21 points.
“Kaylee was a leader on and off the court for Woodland Christian,” said Chapman’s coach Stu Julius. “Her most important quality was her work ethic and getting the best out of her teammates. We are certainly proud of her.”
With the help of fellow first team all-star, grade 10 forward Bree Drost, and second team selection Laura Rowbotham, the Cavaliers went on to sweep through single-A CWOSSA where Chapman averaged 25.5 points per game. Woodland’s winning streak would end in the championship semi-final at single-A OFSAA where they finished fourth in Ontario.
St. Mary’s finished second in the regular season and collected a District 8 silver medal with the help of a pair of grade 12 first team all-star selections; Lily Jones at guard and Monika Milicevic at forward. Jones led the Eagles in scoring averaging 13.8 points per game.
Grade 12 forward Kate Grosz was named as a first team all-star selection as she regularly led St. David’s in scoring, including 15.3 points per game at double-A CWOSSA. The Celtics also named grade 12 guard Ciaran Avril Ba-At as a second team selection.
St. Benedict’s is represented by second team all-stars Eva Mensah and Stacy Tran while Resurrection’s top scorer Tianna Smith was also selected to the second team.
