WATERLOO REGION (February 15, 2024) – On Wednesday night, Resurrection locked up a seat at the triple-A CWOSSA Championships next week with a four-set win over St. Mary’s, to claim their third straight District 8 senior girls’ title.
Resurrection entered the playoffs with a top seed, 13 win and one loss regular season record. After a straight set semi-final win over St. Benedict, they were faced with a familiar St. Mary’s opponent. After splitting the first two sets, Resurrection stepped up their game taking the match in four sets, 25-18, 18-25, 25-13, 25-21.
Resurrection will advance to the triple-A CWOSSA championships being held at RIM Park in Waterloo on February 24th. St David’s will represent District 8 at the double-A CWOSSA Championships being hosted at St. David’s. Both Père-René-de-Galinée and Rockway will attend the single-A senior CWOSSA championship on February 22nd in Walkerton.
In the District 8 junior championship, top seeded Monsignor Doyle faced a Père-René-de-Galinée squad who was on a tear after upsetting Resurrection in their semi-final. After starting the first set down 8-0 to the Mustangs, Père-René-de-Galinée stormed back to win the first set 25-20. They would drop the second set but rally to win the third, fourth and their first District 8 junior girls volleyball title is school history.
Père-René-de-Galinée will advance to the single-A junior CWOSSA Championship in Walkerton on February 22nd, while Monsignor Doyle will play for the triple-A CWOSSA junior Championship on February 24th in Waterloo. On February 23rd, St. David’s will compete in, and host, the double-A junior CWOSSA Championship.
