WATERLOO REGION (April 11, 2022) – District 8 announced on Monday that Monsignor Doyle’s Thach Peter was voted the league’s most valuable player for the 2021-2022 senior basketball season. 

The grade 12 forward helped the Mustangs to their first District 8 senior boys basketball championship in 29 years. Peter led his team in scoring, and had a season high 29 points against St. David’s. 

“Thach is a 6 foot 7 inch player who can play and defend all positions. Thach is a hard worker on and off the court,” said Monsignor Doyle coach Fadi Jolag. “It’s been a while since I have come across a player as talented as Thach. His future is bright, it is really up to him to decide if he will pursue basketball as a career or as a hobby.”

Peter is joined by Monsignor Doyle teammates, grade 12 guard Dom Lamontagne, who was voted as a first team all-star, and grade 11 forward, Jayden Bell who was selected to the second team. 

St. Mary’s High School collected the District 8 silver medal, and is represented with two first-team all-star selections. Grade 12 guard Noah Malacad and grade 12 forward Isaiah Blake. 

Another Pair of grade 12s were named as all-stars from Resurrection’s senior squad. Guard Nate Chan was named as first team selection while forward Tandyn Cant was selected to the second team. 

The starting backcourt for St. Benedict’s, grade 12 Malek Hamad and grade 11 Abdulah Hajjo were both named to the second team, and Daniel Ofwanya from St. David’s rounds our the senior basketball all-star selections.
