D8 Field Hockey: Make it nine in a row for Resurrection

WATERLOO REGION (October 19, 2017) – To call it a dynasty, is an understatement. On Wednesday night on a gorgeous Fall evening seemed the right environment for Resurrection’s field hockey squad to capture their ninth consecutive District 8 title.

Early in the first half Resurrection had a slight edge of ball control, and would have opened up scoring in the first few minutes if it wasn’t for a stretched out kick save from the Celtic’s goalkeeper Marley Dowling.

However a few minutes later, Resurrection’s Sara Steinfield would deflect in her fourth goal on the season to take the one goal lead.

With 10 seconds left in the first half, Phoenix midfielder Rachel Buttinger played a ball in from the shooting circle which was buried in the goal by teammate Chloe Hillier for her fifth goal of the season.

Resurrection did not let up in the second half as they would increase the lead to four on goals from grade 12 forwards Grace David and Justine Bissonnette.

The Celtics would make a late push and score two goals by Jenna Berger and Chloe Davidson but the difference was too much to overcome.

Resurrection will now look toward CWOSSA Championships, October 25th and 26th at Woodside Park in Kitchener. This tournament is one of the hardest roads to qualify for OFSAA, as a CWOSSA entry has won the last seven OFSAA championships, five by Resurrection and two by WCSSAA schools including Blue who won last Fall. CWOSSA will however get two births into the OFSAA Championship this year.

OFSAA will be held in Burlington, November 2-4, 2017.
