WATERLOO REGION (February 25, 2016) –  With CWOSSA tournaments going on right now it is time to take a look at which schools are representing District 8 with pride.

Now, these tournaments are separated in different classes, for basketball and volleyball there are three classes, A, AA and AAA. However for the two hockey tournaments there are only two classes A/AA and AAA. In taking a look at the boys’ basketball A division that starts today but could be postponed due to weather for tomorrow, sees both the Senior and Junior Rockway Flames representing D8. The AA representatives include St. David’s in both the Senior and Junior categories and the AAA teams coming from this area are the Senior St. Benedict Saints and the Junior St. Mary’s Eagles. These AA and AAA tournaments will be played on Friday and Saturday.

Moving right along to the hockey tournaments, District 8 looks to be well represented this year, as in the boys and girls A/AA level it will be the St. David’s Celtics sporting their blue and green colors for District 8. The AAA tournament will see the Resurrection Phoenix playing in red and gold representing D8 girls’ hockey for the very first time in history. On the boys side it will be St. Benedict’s trying to bring home the championship. The boys’ tournament started yesterday with preliminary pool play and then the semifinals and finals today, although the girls’ event was postponed to Monday and Tuesday due to weather.

The final tournament that deserves mention is the girls volleyball who follow the  A, AA and AAA classifications. In fact the A tournament has just finished yesterday with the Woodland Cavaliers taking home the senior championship and representing district 8 proudly. The junior representative Père-René-de-Galinée also did a great job. The AA teams are coming from St. David’s high school and the tournament is scheduled for today and tomorrow but, could also be on Monday if the weather does not cooperate. The final tournament involves the junior team from St. Benedict’s and the senior team from St. Mary’s both of whom had great regular seasons and hope to carry the momentum in to this tournament today and tomorrow.

On a side note the senior girls curling team for St. Benedict’s has just made it to the finals congratulations and good luck girls!

Congratulations to all the district 8 teams who made CWOSSA you are and forever will make this area are proud.
