WATERLOO REGION (March 3, 2016) –  With the CWOSSA championships wrapping up this week it is time to take a look at the D8 Teams that had strong and successful performances in their tournaments.

The AA junior and senior basketball tournament was one of the events where District 8 teams had success. Both the junior and senior representatives came from St. David’s and quickly took the tournament by storm. Both of these teams had high-scoring abilities. The junior David’s team made it all the way to the semi-finals before falling to Centre Dufferin in a closed 10 point game 44 – 33 even with the loss St. David’s got a great performance by Tyreece Lalor who had 12 points in the loss. The senior St. David’s squad made it all the way to the finals before being defeated by Bishop MacDonell. Despite the loss David’s had a tournament high 85 point game earlier in the tournament which was very impressive. The champions of this tournament, senior boys from Bishop MacDonell and junior boys’ team coming from Centre Dufferin will now be heading to OFSAA on March 7th in Timmins Ontario.

The AAA tournament also saw both the junior and senior teams have great success. In the junior tournament it was the D8 representative from St. Mary’s making it all the way to the finals before losing to SJAM in a nail biting four point game 59-55. In this game St. Mary’s got a standout performance by D. Stajic who dropped 18 points. At the senior tournament it was St. Benedict’s who gathered momentum throughout, making it to the semi-finals before faltering to SJAM 49-28. This proves that D8 was well represented at CWOSSA basketball. The winners of both junior and senior AAA basketball are from SJAM. These teams will be heading to Windsor on March 7th to participate in OFSAA.

Moving on to hockey, the last tournament where D8 found success was in the girls AAA hockey team making it to the finals. The girls team from Resurrection tried hard with a lot of pressure on them, unfortunately they were defeated by Centennial 2-0. Centennial will be heading to Stratford to take part in OFSAA.

Here at D8 we would like to congratulate all the teams heading to OFSAA and we wish them the best of luck.

Well done by all of the District 8 teams, you represented this are well and should be proud of your accomplishments.
