WATERLOO REGION (January 22, 2024) – On Thursday, champions were crowned in the novice boys basketball league and the novice girls volleyball league. 

For the first time in league history, E.S.C. Père René de Galinée took home the gold medal in novice girls volleyball. Les Chevalières suffered a tough third set loss (16-14) to St. Benedict’s in pool play, but recovered to beat them in the final in another tightly contested three set match, winning 15-13 in the third. 

In novice boys basketball, St. Mary’s and Resurrection entered the final having split their regular season head-to-head matchups, each winning once. In the rubber match, it was St. Mary’s who rolled to a 51-29 win to collect gold, and their first novice basketball championship since 2016-2017.
