WATERLOO REGION (December 6, 2022) – District 8 announced their all-star rosters from the Fall basketball season on Tuesday, with Lily Vrugteman and Katie Leudy headlining as co-most valuable players. 

The pair helped lead the Saints to a second straight undefeated District 8 regular season, and back-to-back championships. This is a repeat league most valuable player honour for Vrugteman as she also received the nomination last year, while it’s Leudy’s first time being named MVP. This is however, Leudy’s second straight first team all-star selection. 

Sisters Ava and Olivia Bluhm from St. Benedict’s were also recognized as senior basketball all-stars. Grade nine guard Ava was named to the first team, and grade 12 guard Olivia was named to the second team. 

Grade 11 guard Lily Jones from St. Mary’s was named as a first team all-star as she helped her Eagles collect the District 8 silver medal, while teammate Naiya Kang was selected to the second team. 

Georgia Ferguson from Père-René-de-Galinée was also named as a senior first team all-star, regularly leading her squad in scoring, including three 20-plus point performances. 

Second team all-star recognition went to Woodland’s Kaylee Chapman. Chapman, a grade 11 guard, helped Woodland capture a single-A CWOSSA championship, and a fourth place finish at OFSAA. 

A pair of grade 12 guards round out all-star selections as Ella Aldworth from Resurrection and Johanna Dyck Steinmann from Rockway are named with second team honours.
