WATERLOO REGION (February 16, 2023) – On Wednesday night, Resurrection secured a back-to-back championship in senior girls volleyball in a five set thriller.

St Mary’s opened the match with two set wins 25-16, 25-19, but the tide quickly turned in the third when Resurrection stormed out to an early set lead. The Phoenix eventually won the third and fourth sets 26-24, 25-17.

The fifth set was a battle for both teams, going beyond the distance, finishing 20-18 in favour of Resurrection.

Resurrection will advance to the triple-A CWOSSA championships being held at RIM Park in Waterloo on February 23rd. St David’s will represent District 8 at the double-A CWOSSA Championships being hosted at St. David’s. Père-René-de-Galinée topped Woodland in a single-A CWOSSA qualifier on Wednesday to advance to CWOSSA hosted at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate.

In the District 8 junior championship, top seeded Monsignor Doyle had a straight sets victory over St. Mary’s, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23 to capture the gold.

In January, the girls from Monsignor Doyle captured the gold medal in the novice girls volleyball league over Resurrection in the championship final.
