D8 GOLF: Monsignor Doyle claims both team titles

WATERLOO REGION (September 27, 2023) – On Tuesday, the District 8 Boys and Girls Golf Championships were held at Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo and Monsignor Doyle swept both team events.

There was an  impressive showing from the Monsignor Doyle boys team where all five players entered into the event scored in the seventies on the par 71 championship course. Jordan Lacson shot a three over 74 for the Mustangs and also claimed the individual bronze medal. Aiden Goias (76), Hunter Barnhardt (77) and Trentin Rahmann (78) also submitted qualifying scores to secure the back-to-back team title. 

Xavier Bernier from Père-René-de-Galinée shot the low round of the day scoring an even par 71 to claim the boys individual gold medal, while Resurrection’s Carter Banton shot a one-over 72 to take the silver.

The girls from Monsignor Doyle also shot the combined low team score for the day. Maya Incitti won double gold, also claiming the low individual score with a 94 on the scorecard. Teammate Hope Reis finished second individually with 101 and the silver medal.

Bronze medal went to Katelyn Xayavong from E.S. David-Saint-Jacque who scored 103. 

Qualifying participants will play in the CWOSSA Championships in hopes of qualifying for the OFSAA Championship. The girls CWOSSA event will be held at Stonetree Golf Club in Owen Sound on October 2, 2023, while the boys will play at Saugeen Golf Club in Port Elgin on September 4, 2023.
